Education
Lish is a graduate of New York University (MA-Flute Performance), The College of New Jersey (BM-Flute Performance), and Trenton State College (prior to the name change to TCNJ) (BA-English, Minor in Music with a flute concentration).
She is also a proud alumna of Haddonfield Memorial High School in Haddonfield, NJ where she was first given the opportunity to explore music in a supportive, encouraging environment. |
UniversityLish earned her Master's degree in Flute Performance at New York University as a student of Dr. Brad Garner. She also had weekly repertoire/master class with Keith Underwood.
Lish performed on both flute and bass flute with NYU's New Music and Dance Ensemble directed by Dr. Esther Lamneck, was a member of the New Music Rep. Ensemble (performing with violin, cello, clarinet, and piano), and was the piccoloist with the Symphony Orchestra under Michael Lankaster and Wind Ensemble under Paul Cohen and Dr. Jason Noble. Lish was awarded a Graduate Student Organization grant which supports students of the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development who are actively contributing to their field of study. Primary flute studies include Julius Baker, Dr. Brad Garner, David DiGiacobbe, Dr. Dent Williamson, David Ancker, and Ronna Ayscue. Additional lessons were with Keith Underwood, Paul Edmund-Davies, Sato Moughalian, David Cramer, Jeff Khaner, and Adeline Tomasone. Quintet and chamber coaching sessions have been with Alan Gilbert, Heawon Kim, Jeff Scott, Matt Sullivan, Roger McKinney, George Balog, Vanita Jones, and members of the Imani Wind Quintet. Piano studies were with Shirley Bachelor, Jack Ervin, and Karen Hill at The College of New Jersey. She successfully passed the state piano proficiency exam required for all student teachers in NJ. |
GagakuLish was awarded three grants to continue her gagaku/ryūteki studies in Tokyo, Japan as a participant in the Institute for Medieval Japanese Studies Mentor/Protégé Summer Initiative Program.
Private and group ryūteki studies in Tokyo were with SASAMOTO Takeshi, YAGI Chiaki, OKUBO Yasuo, and ECHIGO Manami. Shō studies were with MIYATA Mayumi and MIURA Remi. Hichiriki studies were with NAKAMURA Hitomi. Uchimono (percussion) studies were with SASAMOTO Takeshi. Gakusō studies were with NODA Mika. Ensemble gagaku studies were with Ono Gagaku Kai and Kunitachi College of Music: MIYATA Mayumi, NAKAMURA Hitomi, and ECHIGO Manami. Introductory samai dance: NAKAMURA Hitomi. New York Gagaku studies are with SASAKI Louise, SASAKI Noriyuki, and FUKUI Yoichi at Columbia Gagaku Ensemble of NY and Tenri Gagaku Society in Queens. Lish studied shakuhachi with James Nyoraku Schlefer at Columbia University and at his Kyo Shin An dojo in Brooklyn.

Master ClassesLish has performed in many master classes and was invited by Julius Baker to attend his master class after performing for him at the International FAME Festival.
She has performed for Sandra Church, Robert Dick, David DiGiacobbe, Jill Felber, Dr. Bradley Garner, Susan Glaser, Jeff Khaner, Göran Marcusson, Iliano Matos, Kelly McDermott, Stephanie Mortimore (piccolo master class), Philippe Pierlot, Gary Schocker, Nobutaka Shimizu, Joshua Smith, Steve Tanzer (piccolo master class), Keith Underwood, and Dr. Dent Williamson. She was invited to perform in two master classes given by the New York Flute Club, a master class hosted by the New Jersey Flute Society, a piccolo master class sponsored by the Flute Society of Greater Philadelphia, and attended the Cincinnati Flute Symposium as a performer. Lish has experience implementing her own master classes and clinics for various middle and high schools in the NY Tri-State area.
