Purchased new in March 2011 as a backup to my vintage silver Powell, but selling since I am now playing a handmade, solid 14K Powell. The flute was set-up by Mike Hammer of Hammer Woodwinds in April 2011. He cleaned, shimmed, regulated, and adjusted the flute for $275.
14K rose gold over sterling silver: headjoint, body, and footjoint. Keys are also plated.
When inspecting the inside of the headjoint, body, and footjoint it looks to be plated. A representative from Powell Sonaré did not seem aware of inside plating,
though I cannot find any reason why the rose gold color reflects back if it's supposed to be silver. This is very evident when looking into the headjoint, which has no keywork to reflect back any color of the plating.
It also looks like you can see the plating/color difference on the inside where the tenons are exposed (which are silver), so if it is plated on the inside, then I think it's a great thing.
When researching Sonaré as a potential backup flute, I noticed that pictures of older 709 models (previously SFs) had a large "Sonaré" engraved on the barrel. This flute has Powell's trademark and a small Sonaré script engraved instead. I think this looks much nicer and more professional.
The top lever is not a C# trill key. It closes the G key, so it's great for A-G/A-Ab trill if your LH 3 is broken.
The lower/bottom lever is not a Bb lever. Instead you can trill C-B. It only closes the thumb B.
Schleifklappe (whisper key) and crutch. I've been told that the thumb can hold down the thumb Bb while venting the whisper key to aid in intonation of D and perhaps Eb. Visit 19th Century Boehm Flutes for more information.
Thanks to John Rush for his assistance in explaining the function of this key awhile back.
